History of T-Shirt

What is it called T-shirt?

A T-shirt, or tee shirt, is a style of fabric shirt named after the T shape of its body and sleeves. Traditionally, it has short sleeves and a round neckline, known as a crew neck, which lacks a collar. T-shirts are generally made of a stretchy, light, and inexpensive fabric and are easy to clean.

Is it tee shirt or T-shirt?

Most dictionaries recommend T-shirt, and it is the form most common in edited writing throughout the English-speaking world. Yet t-shirt is gaining ground, and both tee-shirt and tee shirt have some adherents. Not one of them is considered incorrect, so while T-shirt might be the safer choice, the others aren't wrong.

Who invented the T-shirt?

The invention of commercial knitting machines by the English inventor William Cotton in 1864 brought the T-Shirt to the masses. At this time, paid holidays and weekends were introduced, marking the need for comfortable clothing for workers to wear on their off days.

Why is shirt called at shirt?

A T-shirt, or tee shirt, was originally worn only by men as an undershirt. Now it is defined as a short-sleeved, collarless undershirt or any outer shirt of a similar design. It got its name because it resembles the capital letter T in shape.

Is T in T-shirt capital?

Merriam-Webster sees no need to capitalize it: Main Entry: t-shirt. Of course, if it comes at the beginning of a sentence then it should be capitalized: T-shirts and bluejeans lay in stacks on the table.

What are long t-shirts called?

Longline is the name given to any style of clothing top that falls longer than the regular cut and is a part of the casual, oversized trend.
